The Communist Party of India (CPI) has called for a mega opposition meet in Chennai next week to discuss the current political situation in the country. The meet is being organised in the wake of the recent political developments in the country, including the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
The meet is being organised by the CPI’s Tamil Nadu unit and will be attended by leaders from various opposition parties, including the Congress, the DMK, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Samajwadi Party (SP), the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), the Trinamool Congress (TMC), the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Left parties.
The meet is being seen as an attempt by the opposition parties to come together and form a united front against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The meet is being seen as a precursor to the upcoming assembly elections in Tamil Nadu and the general elections in 2021.
The meet is being organised by CPI leader and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi’s son M.K. Stalin. Stalin has been at the forefront of the opposition’s campaign against the CAA and the NRC. He has been vocal in his criticism of the BJP and its policies.
The meet is expected to be attended by several prominent leaders from the opposition parties, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, DMK leader M.K. Stalin, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, SP leader Akhilesh Yadav, BSP leader Mayawati, TMC leader Mamata Banerjee, NCP leader Sharad Pawar and Left leaders Sitaram Yechury and D. Raja.
The meet is expected to be a platform for the opposition parties to discuss the current political situation in the country and to come up with a common strategy to take on the BJP in the upcoming elections. The meet is also expected to discuss the issues of unemployment, economic slowdown, farmers’ distress and the CAA and the NRC.
The meet is likely to be a major event in the political calendar of the country and will be closely watched by political observers. It is expected to set the tone for the upcoming elections in Tamil Nadu and the general elections in 2021.
